ALLIED: Loving that Spy (movie) [My short movie review]

I went to see Allied with Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard the other day. I was very pleasently surprised by this spy World War II drama/thriller.

Highlights

I totally liked the performance of Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. The chemistry between these spy characters that fall in love in times of fear and destruction is really on-screen. Moreover, if  you are into historical movies, this is a movie for you. The settings in France and England are reall nice to look at, the costumes and props are cool (1940s cars and weapons etc.). There are some great action scenes  in it, mainly shootouts.

Lowlights

Although I understand that character building is essential, the first third of the movie is rather slow-paced. It takes time (and willingness) on the moviegoer’s side to stick with the film. Once you are over that, however, the movie picks up and  keeps ist great momentum

Summary

I like Robert Zemeckis’ movies. As in Forrest Gump, Back to the Future or Contact, he knows how to tell a story. And that is rare to find in nowaways Hollywood productions. Appreciate every movie that succeeds in doing so.

My Rating: 8/10

Will I buy the DVD/Blu-Ray to add it to my collection?

Rather not, but watching it again as VoD is rather likely.
